Accounta Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 7-1-2026

Last Updated: 7-1-2026

Accounta ("we," "us," or "our") provides a browser accountability service that helps individuals and families maintain transparency around online activity. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information: Name, email address, phone number (for SMS authentication), and password.
  • Monitor & Device Information: Device type, browser type, and unique monitor identifiers.
  • Browsing Activity: URLs visited, page titles, search queries, time spent on sites, and blocked keyword attempts. This data is collected only from devices where you have installed and activated an Accounta agent or browser.
  • Accountability Partner Information: Email addresses and phone numbers of people you invite to view your activity.
  • Technical Data: IP address, browser version, operating system, and timestamps.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the core accountability service (logging activity and sending it to your chosen partners).
  • Detect and block attempts to access content matching your blocklist.
  • Send heartbeats and protection alerts.
  • Authenticate users and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Improve the service and respond to support requests.

3. Sharing of Information

Your browsing activity is only shared with the accountability partners you explicitly invite. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

We may share limited information with service providers (such as Twilio for SMS delivery) under strict confidentiality agreements.

4. Data Immutability

Important: Once activity data is recorded and sent to our servers, it is stored in an append-only manner. We do not provide any technical ability for you, your accountability partners, or our team to edit or permanently delete individual activity records. This is a core feature of the service designed to maintain trust and integrity.

5. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • Invite or remove accountability partners at any time.
  • Uninstall agents from your devices (this will stop new data collection from those devices).
  • Delete your account (note: previously recorded activity data will remain due to immutability).

Because of the immutable nature of the logs, we cannot honor requests to delete specific historical activity records.

7. Children's Privacy

The Family Plan is intended for use by parents or guardians monitoring minors. Parents are responsible for obtaining any necessary consent and for managing the data shared with accountability partners. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verified parental consent.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or through the service.
